Documentary on Chinese Woman Revolutionary Qiu Jin

AUTUMN GEM explores the extraordinary life of Qiu Jin (1875-1907), a radical women's rights activist who attempted an armed uprising against the Qing Dynasty. She became the first female martyr for China's 1911 Revolution and is celebrated as a national heroine today.

The hour-long film contains interviews with scholars, archival materials, and readings of Qiu Jin's original writings in Chinese with English subtitles. It has screened at over 100 schools and educational venues, including Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, Princeton, Brown, Connecticut College, University of Maryland, University of British Columbia, and Australian National University.

As this year is the centenary of the 1911 Revolution that ended imperial rule in China, it's a great time to recognize the role of Qiu Jin in the country's transition to a modern nation.
